A pair of Chinese painted pottery figures of horses, Tang Dynasty (618-907)
Each horse naturalistically modeled. The result of C-Link Research & Development Limited, Hong Kong, Thermoluminescence test no. 541HF37 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
This pair of sculptures, which resembles that of tomb figures of the Tang Dynasty, depicts the aforementioned animals firmly planting their four legs while slightly turning their heads. The surface has been further incised to evidence finer detail such as muscle folds.
Condition
- right rear leg on one of the sculptures has a crack; ear is broken; scuffing and wear to surface.
