1863 Steinway and Sons Square Grand Piano
Item Details
An 1863 square grand piano in Brazilian rosewood, by Steinway & Sons, New York. The rectangular case features a scroll sawn music rack with lyre and a carved lyre foot pedal support, on four carved cabriole legs, which detach for moving. This piano was previously owned by Cincinnati Symphony pianist, Jay Rice and includes a signed bill of sale. It has been professionally restored and refinished. The original 52 ivory keys were replaced with a synthetic ivory, following Federal requirements. Includes tuning keys and a binder of information, compiled by Mr. Rice, including photographs, before restoration. Also, includes a late Victorian piano stool in birch, having an incised carved crest rail, above a shaped splat and spindled back, a swivel seat and four turned legs with cast iron talon feet, clutching glass balls, circa 1890-1900.
