Antique Hepplewhite Style Mahogany Inlaid Converted Knife Box
Item Details
An antique figured mahogany Hepplewhite style converted knife box, circa early to mid 1800s. The figured mahogany box has a slanted lid with a walnut and satinwood inlaid compass- like star design above a serpentine front with oval escutcheon. The interior of the lid is inlaid with another compass-like star. The interior chamber of the box which once held a sectional panel for knives, has been converted for documentation storage with two wooden dividers. Three wood bracketed feet support the box, two in the back and one in the front.

- minor markings throughout, mostly good consistent with use and age; some minor cracks in the veneer along the feathered figuring located on the lid; lock is loose on the interior and most likely not original to the piece; hinges appear to be newer; key and lock not present.
