A mid-century cookie jar by the noted designer LeGardo Tackett (American, 1911-1984) originally of Henderson, Kentucky. During the period 1956-1958 the Tacketts lived in Kyoto, Japan, focusing on design. This piece was likely designed during this period. It is a white cast ceramic cookie jar in a stylized form of a whale, having black eyes to either side and a simple red line as a smile; it has a fitted wood lid with ball finial, and large, wicker woven wrapped rectangular handle.
