Panama–Pacific commemorative coins were produced in 1915 in connection with Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. Designed by Charles Keck, the obverse of the coin depicts the capped head of a Panama Canal construction worker representing the arduous labor necessary to build the canal. The reverse states ‘Panama–Pacific Exposition’, ‘San Francisco’, encircling the denomination of the coin and two dolphins which symbolize the two oceans connected by the canal.
