Late 19th Century Handmade Folk Art "Friendship" Quilt

A late 19th century folk art Friendship quilt designed in a block style with each square individually created in different charming designs embellished with embroidered motifs. Each square is stitch signed or initialed by the contributor and shows such names as W.H. Riley, Mattie, Mary, Ella Cathey, Fannie Thomas, E.J. Neil, Fannie Rainey, Lillie Dean, Lela Whitheo, Emma Nelson, Mollie H. and more. The designs are primarily floral themed and overall the colors are brown with a range of neutral colors. The center block says ‘W.H. Riley’ Friendship so possibly the quilt was made for her. The quilt features fancy stitching throughout, it has bands of brown velvet to the sides and does not have backing fabric.
