An woodblock on paper titled Towers by Robert Whitmore (Ohio; 1890-1979). This piece depicts a high contrast view through gnarly tree branches at a tall tower. The artist’s signature is present to the lower right corner and the title is to the lower left. This piece is presented mounted on foam board.
Robert H. Whitmore was a painter, printmaker and draughtsman born in Dayton, Ohio on February 22, 1890. Whitmore studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Cincinnati Art Academy, deriving his impressionistic style from the artistic movement of the time. Whitmore preferred to work directly from nature, believing that it produced an honest interpretation of the world around us. In the 1920s, Whitmore began teaching at the Dayton Art Institute before settling into a position at Antioch College for thirty years.
