Frank Kowing Mixed Media Sculpture "Last Ride"

A mixed media sculpture titled Last Ride by Frank Kowing (1944 – 2016), created in December of 2007. An alternate title of this work is Canoe of Fate. The composition is a collage of several different materials including found items, wood, and paint. The work is titled, signed, and dated to the verso in paint and a gallery label is also included with the work. A wire is included for hanging. Accompanied by a descriptive catalog on the artist’s painting series Journey of Healing.

Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation, the bulk of his focus being mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania.
