Pair of Edgar Yaeger Hand-Colored Christmas Themed Woodblock Prints

A pair of Christmas-themed vintage hand-colored woodblock prints on paper by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997). Both are hand-colored with gouache and depict Christmas trees near banners that read, ‘NOEL.’ One is signed in graphite, and the other is signed, dated 1993, and numbered 71/85 in graphite. Both are presented without matting or framing.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
