An oil portrait on canvas of a woman by French artist Guillaume Seignac (1870 – 1924). This work features a half-length portrait of a semi-nude woman in repose. The work is signed to the lower left. It is lined with board and presented in a gesso wood frame with a textured bronze-tone finish. A couple inscriptions are present to the verso.
The work was purchased by Norwegian tennis player Ada Werring and her husband, Eivind Werring and has descended in their family. Starting her tennis career at the age of twelve representing the Oslo Tennis Club, Werring went on to win more than 35 Nordic and Norwegian tennis championships.
Born in France, Guillaume Seignac was known for his adherence to European academic traditions. He studied at the Academie Julian under Tony Robert-Fleury, Gabriel Ferrier, and William Adolph Bouguereau. Beginning in 1897, he frequently exhibited at the Salons until his death, and specialized in classical portrayals of women.

- 2.5" strip of in painting present to lower center; some rubbing and paint loss along edges; small chips, scratches, and stains scattered throughout frame.
