A limited edition photograph print by German-American photographer and photojournalist Alfred Eisenstaedt (1898-1995), created in 1951. This work features a portrait of Sir Winston Churchill flashing the ‘V’ for Victory sign. The work is signed to the lower right and numbered 142 out of an edition of 250 to the lower left. Presented under glass, the work is matted and presented in a black wood frame.
One of the most prominent and pioneering photojournalists of the 20th century, Alfred Eisenstaedt studied at the University of Berlin and pursued photography after serving in World War I. He was a staff photographer for Life Magazine, which featured his work on more than ninety of their covers. He worked for multiple publications including Time alongside Margaret Bourke-White and Peter Stackpole, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vogue, to name a few. In addition to Sir Winston Churchill, many of his famous photos feature candid shots of numerous political leaders and celebrities including Marilyn Monroe, John F. Kennedy, George Bernard Shaw, and the Clinton family, among many others. In 1988, he was honored with ICP’s Infinity Master of Photography Award.
