An original 1871 oil painting on board by well-listed French-American painter Frederick Dickinson Williams (France/Massachusetts, 1829 – 1915). The painting depicts several figures lounging on a grassy hillside beneath a row of massive trees. A small white house can be seen sitting in the distance. The painting is signed and dated very faintly to the lower right. The painting is presented in a wooden frame with gold tone finish and a hanging wire attached to the verso.
Williams studied at Harvard University and went on to teach art in the Boston Public School system. His works were exhibited at he exhibited at the Paris Salons, Pennsylvania Academy, Washington Art Association, Society of American Artists, The National Academy, Boston Art Club Boston Athenaeum, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
Condition
- craquelure across painting’s surface, consistent with age. One small chip and inpainting to upper center.
