An original antique oil painting on board attributed to well-listed French artist Charles Edouard Edmond Delort (1841 – 1895), titled The Gardener’s Surprise. The painting features a man standing in a garden near a stone wall gazing quizzically at something he holds in his hand which appears to be a woman’s shoe. The painting is unsigned, but a small plaque attached to its lower edge gives the artist’s name and piece’s title. The painting is presented in an intricate 19th century frame with ornate cast detailing, gold tone finish, and a hanging wire. More information about the artist can be found below.
