An oil painting on canvas of a winter wooded scene by contemporary artist Judge Edward Hummer. This Impressionist style painting depicts a frozen lake jutting up against a sloped embankment covered in snow, as a gathering of trees emerge from the water. To the lower left corner is an artist signature. The painting is wrapped over a wooden stretcher.
Judge Edward (Ed) J. Hummer was born in Weehawken, New Jersey and received his formal education at the University of Notre Dame studying fine arts and accounting. Later he received a Doctorate in Jurisprudence but continued his art education while traveling to Paris, France. Hummer studied privately with painter Carl Kappas, C. Curry Bohm, and Fred W. Rigley in Brown County, Indiana. Hummer is best known for his landscapes, in particular the Colorado Rockies and figurative landscapes of the United States and Mexico. He primarily works in oil paintings and pastel creating rich and vibrant scenes. Hummer’s work is housed in private collections across the United States.
