An oil painting on canvas by artist William H. Spencer, created in 1859. The still life work depicts an assortment of fruit, including grapes, peaches and plums, arranged on a grassy surface against a variegated brown background. The work is signed and dated ‘W.H. Spencer 1859’ to the lower left. It is presented without glass in a gold tone wooden frame with moulded embellishments. The frame includes a plate bearing the artist’s name attached to the front, and a hanging string to the verso.

Condition

- abrasion with media loss to canvas at lower center; craquelure and discoloration to composition; edge wear and scuffs to frame; no backing paper present; wear to verso of canvas and frame.
