1950s Walt Disney-Rand McNally World Globe

A Walt Disney-Rand McNally World Globe, likely produced between 1955 and 1960. This tin litho globe of the Earth features illustrations of Disney characters, primarily Mickey Mouse and friends, scattered around the oceans to highlight locations such as the International Date Line, New York (‘the world’s largest city’) and Disneyland; and character illustrations on the base. Characters featured on this globe include Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Tinker Bell from Peter Pan, Willie the Whale from Make Mine Music, Pablo the Penguin from The Three Caballeros and José Carioca from Saludos Amigos (naturally, drinking coffee off the coast of his native Brazil). The globe is marked ‘Map Copyright Rand McNally & Co.’, ‘Made in U.S.A.’ and ‘Illustrations and Non-Cartographic Text Copyright Walt Disney Productions’.
