Harry Barton Original Oil Painting on Masonite
Item Details
Masonite
Unsigned
An original oil painting on masonite by listed American illustrator Harry Barton (Ohio/New York, 1908 – 2001). The painting depicts figures in a wide field gathering soft pink wildflowers; a farmhouse can be seen in the distance. The painting is presented in a dark composite frame with a gold tone fillet and a hanging wire attached to the verso. It is unsigned, but the artist’s estate stamp is visible to the verso.
Barton was primarily known for his book cover illustrations, but simultaneously created a large body of work of soft, loosely-rendered landscapes such as this one. Barton studied at the Art Students League in New York with Frank Reilly, and went on to have work featured in major publications including The Saturday Evening Post and Boy’s Life.
