A watercolor painting on paper of a city square by listed American artist Edwin Oman (1905-1985), created in 1957. This work features people seated and promenading through a city square filled with Neoclassical architecture and a central obelisk monument. The work is signed ‘Oman’ and dated ‘57’ to the lower left. It is presented under glass with light gray matting and housed in a gray metal frame. A stamp from Hudson Rogue Co. is marked to the verso.
Born in Chicago, Edwin Oman studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the American Academy of Art. He was a member of several artists organizations including the American Watercolor Society, and was especially known for his landscapes, cityscapes, and street scenes. His work was exhibited by the Laguna Beach Art Association, the Grand Central Art Gallery, and the Stendahl Gallery, among many other art venues.
