Antique Pennsylvania Dutch Blanket Chest

Item Details

An antique Pennsylvania Dutch blanket chest. The large, rectangular wood blanket chest has a raised rim around the lid, with hand-crafted iron hinges. There are recessed panels to the front, which are decorated with two sponge-painted black diamonds and hand-painted lettering down the center, and there are hand-painted black floral designs on the lid. The interior has been more recently lined with cedar boards, and the blanket chest rests on bracket feet. No maker’s mark.

Condition

- evidence of worm holes and deterioration to wood in areas; surface scratches, scuffs, nicks, and wear throughout; interior cedar lining has been recently added; metal hardware is rusty; missing section of wood missing at the bottom on one side
