An acrylic painting with graphite on paper titled Abstrakte Composition by very well-listed and prolific contemporary German Neo-Expressionist artist Peter Robert Keil (Berlin; born 1942). This abstract painting depicts a stylized figure rendered in thick black lines and a left-facing profile in red with a gestural graphite drawing of an interior scene in the background. It is signed and dated 2017 to the lower right as well as signed, titled, and marked with the location of painting, Palma de Mallorca, to the verso. The work is presented in a wood frame with wire to the verso for hanging.
Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
