A late 19th-century oil painting on canvas by listed artist Wilhelm Erhardt (Czech, 1815 – 1890). The landscape piece depicts a small stream winding through a bucolic rural setting. Figures walk on a wooded path and foot bridge to the center of the composition, surrounded by lush trees and greenery, under a covering of partially overcast skies. The work is signed to the lower right. It is presented without glass in a moulded wooden frame with gold tone finish, fitted with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- wear and media loss to edges of canvas; craquelure and surface wear to composition; over-painting throughout, particularly to upper center and lower left; original canvas has been cut and adhered to masonite backing; edge wear, nicks and cracks to frame.
