Horia Damian was a painter and sculptor mostly known for his large-scale monuments. He moved to Paris in 1946 and was an apprentice to Andre Lhote and Auguste Herbin. He produced The Hill, a monumental construction for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; his work has been exhibited at many other venues including the Museum of Modern Art, the Centre Pompidou, and the Venice Biennial, among others.
