Edgar Yaeger Original Vine Charcoal Drawing of a Reclined Figure
Item Details
An original vine charcoal drawing on paper by well-listed American artist Edgar Louis Yaeger (1904 – 1997). The drawing depicts a stylized, modern figure wearing a striped shirt and reclining in front of an open window. The drawing is completed in loose linework. It is signed in graphite to the lower right and matted in white in an acetate sleeve. It appears that text is printed to the verso of the paper, and is slightly visible through the drawing.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
