A 1949 charcoal drawing on toned paper of W. Somerset Maugham by artist W. D. Lee. This well-rendered, monochromatic drawing depicts the aforementioned playwright posed in slight profile, looking onward with a stern expression. The lightly rendered values are reinforced with white charcoal. To the lower right corner is a dated artist signature and label for Maugham. The drawing is presented under glass, mounted to a beige backing in a dark wooden frame with hanging wire to the verso.

Condition

- glass could be cleaned more thoroughly; marks to backing; sticker residue to the upper left; wrinkling.
