An early 20th century oil painting on canvas attributed via a label to the verso to Albert P. Lucas, perhaps listed American artist Albert Pike Lucas (1862-1945). The painting depicts rolling waves crashing onto a sandy beach, the sun breaking through the clouds behind them. A line of bright light glints across the surface of the water, all rendered in rich shades of greenish-blue. The piece is signed in red paint to its lower right and is mounted in a gold tone wooden frame with a hanging wire to its verso.

Condition

- warping and billowing to canvas; canvas is loose on stretchers; damage and wear to painting with craquelure, bubbling and large areas of paint flaking and media loss, most visibly near center of composition; discoloration, stains and toning throughout; edge wear, scuffs and loose joints to frame; no backing paper present.
