Antique Prussian Model 1889 Infantry Officer's Sword
Item Details
An antique Prussian model 1889 Infantry Officer’s sword. Upon the unification of Germany and the 1888 accession of Kaiser Wilhelm II, the need for a standardized officer’s sword resulted in this double-edged sword with a straight blade and double fuller. This piece features a leather wrapped grip with a braided metal cord with the applied Imperial cypher of Wilhelm II. The crook handle also sports a brass pommel and D-shaped knucklebow leading to a counterguard with a hinged and pierced counterguard in the shape of the Imperial Prussian eagle. The blade is long and straight, bearing no visible maker’s marks, and a short leather strap is attached to the hilt.
