Samuel Adams Appointment Document Signed June 16, 1796

Item Details

A partly printed document signed appointment by American Revolutionary Patriot and Founding Father Samuel Adams (1722-1803). Massachusetts lawyer, businessman, and one-time brewer Samuel Adams opposed the Intolerable Acts, promoted the natural rights of man, defended the Boston Tea Party, and, in 1776, signed the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. In 1792, while serving as Governor of Massachusetts, he signed this appointment of Solomon Leland to the position of Justice of the Peace for Worcester County, to the upper left. This document is presented with a typewritten explanatory note on a black mat, under glass in a black wooden frame with a gold-toned border and a wire hanger to the verso. Boston, June 16, 1796. DS 1 page, tall folio. The piece is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication.
