Vintage Mark Coomer Serigraphs of Tropical Architecture

Item Details

Panel
In Plate

Two vintage serigraphs on masonite board of tropical architecture by listed American artist Mark Coomer (1914-2004). Included in this selection of mid century prints are an image a woman and child near a low concrete wall dividing the sidewalk from a unique two story structure, and an image depicting a woman in a pink skirt and head wrap walking past a large wood building topped with a cupola. Each print is signed in-plate by Coomer in a lower corner. Both prints are presented unframed.

Born in Bay City, Michigan, Mark Coomer studied art in Chicago and Detroit before eventually settling in Arizona. He is known for his paintings and serigraphs, often depicting street patioscapes and urban city scenes. Coomer did almost all of his own printing, limiting his editions to 100. His preferred ground for his prints was composite board, which combined with the permanent nature of his oil-based inks, were advertised as “washable”. Coomer exhibited his paintings and limited edition serigraphs nationally, and many can be found in private collections and institutions including the Chicago Art Institute; Challis Galleries, Laguna Beach, California; and The West and Walter-Bimson Western Art Collection housed at the University of Arizona Museum of Art.
