Early Recast Bronze Sculpture After Antoine-Louis Barye

An early recast bronze sculpture of an elk after well-listed French artist Antoine-Louis Barye (1795 – 1875). This work is a 19th century recast by Achille Collas. This piece presents a calling bull standing on a textured, organic base that is signed in mold. The base is marked ‘A. Barbedienne Fondeur Paris’ to the edge and ‘18340’ to the underside.
Condition
- polish on top of sculpture is worn; surface abrasions toward hind legs, neck, and shoulders of sculpture; surface abrasions to base.
