Item Details
A pair of 19th century Irish cut glass and bronze commemorative compotes. The antique Victorian pieces feature shallow, petaled glass plates that rise off naturalistic brass tree trunk stems and openwork Romantic bases ornamented with small putti figurines. They are engraved with a personalized dedication to Denis J. Kirwan Esq. of Castlehacket (Estate) of County Galway, Ireland.
In the Irish census of 1901 Denis J. Kirwan is described as a land agent by profession. Mr. Kirwan was descended from the historical owners of the estate of Castlehacket, which the family had owned since the late 17th century.
