John Morton Manuscript Document Signed
Item Details
An 18th century manuscript document signed by American Revolutionary Patriot John Morton. Pennsylvania farmer and jurist John Morton (1725–1777) was elected as a member of the Continental Congress in 1774, and provided the deciding vote for Pennsylvania to accept independence, signing the Declaration of Independence on or about July 4, 1776. Morton, along with one other Pennsylvanian, signed this undated receipt for £260 to the bottom left as witnesses, with a third man’s signature appearing on the bottom right. The receipt is presented against a black mat, in a black wooden frame with a gold-toned border and a wire hanger to the verso. MDS, oblong 12mo. The piece is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from James Spence Authentication.
