French Sevres Style Porcelain Lidded Potpourri

Item Details

A hand-painted French Sevres style porcelain lidded potpourri. The piece features ormolu knop, handles, grill, and base, all modeled in the Rococo style with shell and scroll flourishes. The lid is decorated with a scene of a courting couple on one side and a house in a landscape on the other. Each is framed in a cartouche of applied gilding with floral details. The same decoration appears on the bowl part of the potpourri. The inner surfaces of the container have also been decorated with floral designs. The underside of the base is marked with a decorator’s mark, a monogram ‘HC/France’.
