An oil painting on canvas by American portraitist Frances O’Farrell (1923-2015). This portrait painting depicts a young woman with long black hair, in traditional Native American attire andred headband. She is posed in front of a mottled and abstracted floral background. The work is signed in the lower left corner ‘Frances O’ Farrell ©’. It is presented in a wood frame with gold tone trim and a white linen liner. There is a hanging wire mounted to the verso.
Born in St. Joe Texas, Frances O’Farrell had early success as a television and film actor before transitioning into an accomplished portrait painter. O’Farrell studied at the Kansas City Art Institute before becoming the commissioned portrait artist for the annual San Fernando Valley Man of the Year award during the 1960’s. By the 1980’s Frances was commissioned to paint the portraits of dignitaries and leaders across the world, including First Lady Betty Ford for the White House; Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II which hangs in Her Majesties Private Collection; Nelle Reagan, mother of Ronald Reagan; and Mrs. Norman Vincent Peale in honor of her receipt of the National Woman of the Year award. Additionally, Frances’ suites of paintings of American Indians, Classical Nudes and studies from the Middle East have been featured in gallery shows across the United States.
