Item Details
A hand-knotted Pakistani wool area rug. This rug is rendered in a bright palette of madder red, teal, indigo, powder blue, sage, ivory, and sepia. The field has a lobed medallion infilled with a smaller geometric gul with floral and foliate motifs. The spandrels have a rectilinear floral form with barber pole devices. The field features large, stylized flower-filled vases and rosettes with scattered polychrome guls. Framing the field is a meandering floral main border, and a pair of ornate ‘pelt’ guard borders in contrasting colors on the madder field. It has multiple overcast selvedges and a wide, striped kilim skirt with a tied wool warp fringe. It is labeled to the underside.
