A 1991 watercolor painting on paper by Manfred Kiedorf (German, 1936-2015) titled Jungfernbrücke, Berlin. The piece depicts an Impressionist-inspired landscape, with Berlin’s oldest bascule bridge shown to the center, rendered in a palette of yellow, blue, brown and grey hues. The work is signed ‘K91’ in paint to the lower right. It is additionally signed in graphite to the lower right of the matting, titled to the lower center and inscribed ‘For Jake and Karoline’ to the lower left. The painting is matted in white and presented under glass in a white metal frame.
Manfred Kiedorf was born in 1936 in Berlin, and is known for his work as a stage designer and miniaturist. He is particularly well-known for his Rococo miniature creations, which depict life during the 18th century. Trained as a toolmaker, in 1956 to 1960 he transitioned to the field of stage design at the Berlin-Weißensee art school and studied with Heinrich Kilger. He later worked at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin. His career also included work as a draftsman and illustrator, and he has worked for the television radio Berlin-Adlershof, the Maxim Gorki Theater, and the folk stage Berlin. He was a member of the the Association of Artists of the GDR where in 1973 he obtained freelance work as draftsman and illustrator.
