A clipper ship model of the Rainbow. The Rainbow, launched in 1845 in New York, for trade in China, is considered the first extreme clipper ship, designed to sacrifice cargo space for speed. The model features cloth sails and rigging with wooden hull and three masts. It rests on a wooden plinth finished with a brass plaque marked ‘Clipper Ship-1845, Rainbow’. The piece is marked ‘Made in Spain’ to the underside.
