A collection of Taft and Roosevelt memorabilia including a President Taft White House dinner invitation, family photographs, books, magazines with images, stories also on outgoing President Theodore Roosevelt. Included is an engraved White House invitation to a Mr. and Mrs. Howland, to join the President and Mrs. Taft for dinner on May 5, 1909, which took place just days before the First Lady suffered a stroke. Also photographs of the Taft family, and one of the famously fattest President seated down for a picnic dinner. There are three books on William Howard Taft, including one that was used as his 1908 campaign biography and includes many personal photographs that have not been published since then. Also included is a copy of the “Inauguration Number,” dated March 6, 1909 of Harpers Weekly, including articles on outgoing President Theodore Roosevelt with amusing cartoons of his imagined last night as president, and stories on the new President William Howard Taft and his family. Also included is the July 13, 1913 issue of Colliers magazine covering the nomination of Woodrow Wilson as the Democratic presidential candidate and proceedings of the Democratic Convention with an image of the incumbent Republican First Lady Nellie Taft in attendance.
