A pastel portrait of a woman on paper by listed artist George Beattie, Jr. (1919-1997), created in 1945. This well-rendered drawing depicts a woman in a formal, pale blue jacket and lace neck piece seated on an upholstered couch, staring towards the viewer with crossed arms. To the upper left corner of the composition is a handwritten, dated artist signature. The drawing is presented under glass in a gold tone wooden frame with hanging wire to the verso.
Known for his murals, landscapes, and genre scenes, George Beattie, Jr. attended the Cleveland School of Art for his formal art training worked primarily in Georgia. His work has been exhibited at numerous art institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art, Art Institute of Chicago, and the High Museum of Art, among others.
