An F. Begay signed Hano Clown Kachina doll. This detailed carving depicts two Hano clowns immersed in a game of cards. One has cards hidden behind his back; while the other is pointing in an accusatory manner. Each doll is fixed to the base and hand-painted in black stripes and wears a leather pouch, skirt and red bandana. It is signed to the base ‘Hano Clown F. Begay.’ Kachina dolls are carved by the Hopi Indians of northern of Arizona.
Condition
- one clown is missing the point to his hat. The hat on the other clown shows signs of a repaired point. Construction is sound, but the pieces are loosely fixed to the base.
