A pair of Japanese woodblock prints on paper from a series titled A Collection of Ukiyo-e Beauties (當世美人揃). These colorful pieces each feature an ornately-dressed woman with a child carrying the train of her robes, the figures presented in headdresses under the boughs of a flowering tree. Both prints are titled to their upper right corners and bear the Izumi-ya Ichibei publisher’s seal alongside an unidentified artist’s printed signature and a censor seal. The prints are double-matted under glass and are presented in beveled black and gold tone frames with wires for hanging.
Condition
- fair; some discoloration and foxing to prints; warping and creasing to paper; minor stain to lower left corner of one mat; surface wear to frames.
