An oil painting on canvas by well-listed American artist William Samuel Horton (1865-1936) titled Chateau de Blonay. This carefully-rendered landscape features a palette filled with dusty pastel blue and orange, depicting the Swiss Blonay Castle at the crest of a low hill, the whole scene scattered with autumnal trees. The painting is made up of daubed brushwork, blending together into quick swirling marks particularly visible throughout the foreground. It is signed ‘William S. Horton’ to its lower left and includes an estate stamp and gallery label from Cincinnati Art Galleries, LLC. to its verso. The painting is presented in a gold tone frame with molded leaf motifs at each corner and includes a wire for hanging.
William Samuel Horton (1865-1936) was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and studied in Paris at the Academie Julian. He is known for his Impressionist coastal scenes, landscapes, and still life oil paintings.
