French Moderator Lamps Circa 1840

Item Details

A pair of antique French moderator lamps, circa 1840. The lamps have an indigo blue pedestal, vase-shaped, atop a round brass base on four feet. The apron has portrait medallions and a scrolled design. There are brass handles attached to the vases with Bacchus figures on the lower edges. The neck has an openwork design with a grape theme. There is a key shaped switch on the neck. Globes are frosted white glass with a red dragon design. Chimneys are clear glass. The moderator lamp was an adaptation by M. Franchot of the Argand oil lamp. (See links for further details.)
