Antique Salt-Glazed Stoneware Crocks, Including a German Westerwald Example
Item Details
A group of two antique salt-glazed stoneware crocks, including a German Westerwald example. The first crock retains remnants of later, yellow paint over a cylindrical body. It features a round, flared rim above a tooled shoulder. The second example, a German Westerwald crock, is decorated with freehand, cobalt underglaze designs resembling tied ribbons. It has a semi-ovoid body with a round, flared rim over a tooled shoulder and a pair of applied handles. There are no maker’s marks.

Condition
- taller crock with some tiny nicks along interior edge of rim; base with a few slightly larger chips; yellow paint is later with large losses and flaking; Westerwald crock with a couple small chips to rim; multiple hairline cracks to body with a few spots of glaze loss; small burn mark with a tiny hole near foot.
