Antique Artus Van Briggle Rookwood Pottery Creamer
Item Details
An antique Rookwood Pottery creamer decorated by Artus Van Briggle. The creamer features a standard glaze, becoming lighter to the base with a floral design in light yellows and green while the handle is a stylized butterfly. The piece is from 1889, has the reverse ‘RP’ with three flames and is stamped ‘329 G’ to the underside. The artist inscription is is on the underside to the left of the and reads ‘AVB’. Van Briggle is considered to be one of the leading decorators of the time at Rookwood, leaving there in 1901 for Colorado for health reasons, where he established his own studio and produced his own lines and glazes.
