A mid-century oil painting on canvas by listed South Carolina artist Marjorie Smith (20th-century) titled Wintry Birches. The piece depicts a snow-covered winter landscape scene, with a birch-lined stream to the center, set against a backdrop of distant mountain peaks. The work is signed in paint to the lower right, with the artist’s name and work title written on a label adhered to the canvas verso. It is presented without glass in a silver tone wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso.
Condition
- 1/4" un-repaired hole to canvas, with media loss, to lower left; wear with media loss to upper right and lower left corners; craquelure present throughout painting, with some visible to canvas verso; minor toning and discoloration to image and canvas verso; edge wear, scuffing, stains and nicks to frame; no backing paper present; dust and accretion throughout.
