A limited edition M.I. Hummel porcelain figurine by Goebel. The piece commemorates the Berlin Airlift, from June 26, 1948 to September 30, 1949. This lot includes a figurine in the shape of the Berlin Airlift Memorial at Tempelhof Airport in Berlin, Germany, and an Auf Wiedersehen figurine, depicting a young boy and girl waving white and red polka dotted handkerchiefs. These figurines are presented on a wooden base, marked to a brass tone plaque, ‘In Commemoration of the Berlin Airlift – A Heroic Effort to Keep a City Free, June 26, 1948 to September 30, 1949, Berliner Luftbrücke – Symbol für den Freiheitswillen der Menschen’. The Berlin Airlift Memorial figurine is from a limited edition, numbered 08238 out of 25,000. Auf Wiedersehen is debossed to the base, ‘M.I. Hummel’ and both pieces are stamped with the Goebel maker’s mark used in the late 20th century.
