Paul H. Olbrich Oil Painting on Canvas of Seascape "Brandung"

Item Details

A mid to late 20th-century oil painting on canvas titled Brandung (Surf) by German artist Paul H. Olbrich (b. 1898). The piece depicts a seascape at daybreak, with waves crashing gently over a deserted beach. The work is signed ‘P.H. Olbrich’ in cream paint to the lower right and titled to the canvas verso. It is presented without glass in a wooden frame with floral gesso embellishments, fitted with hanging wire to the verso.

Condition

- extensive discoloration and toning to image, with minor wear to surface of painting; pieces of gesso are broken off of frame to center of left side; overall moderate surface wear, nicks and scratches to frame.
