A 1967 signed offset lithograph poster after a painting by Marc Chagall (Russian, 1887 – 1985) for Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute. The poster for a Metropolitan Opera production of the opera features an angel playing a flute and a variety of animals including a snake, a man with a goat and two lions with human faces. The German title of the opera, Die Zauberflöte, is printed to the bottom of the poster followed by ‘Mozart’ and ‘Metropolitan Opera’. It is signed by Chagall in black ink to the lower right. The print is mounted under glass with a narrow carved wooden frame that is wired for hanging.
