Vintage Chessie System "Chessie" and "Peake" Playing Cards

A pair of vintage Chessie System ‘Chessie’ and ‘Peake’ themed playing cards. These cards were designed as part of a marketing campaign for Chessie Systems, a holding company that owned the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway (C&O). After the popularity of a print advertisement created for the company in which the then unnamed cat was depicted Chessie became the mascot for the company. Peake was introduced in 1937 as Chessie’s mate.
