Antique French M1866 Chassepot Bayonet and Scabbard
Item Details
An antique French M1866 Chassepot bayonet and scabbard. The hilt is made of ribbed brass, and the spine of the blade shows the Saint Étienne Arsenal inscription for July 1872 (St Etienne Juillet 1872). The crosspiece bears a serial number and proof marks to the quillon. The side of the hilt is stamped with the number 86807, and the scabbard is embossed with number 72767.

- oxidation/rust, pitting, scratches and wear throughout; deterioration and crumbling to the lining of the scabbard
